J.Crew Factory — Retail Electrical Buildout in Northbrook

From a mattress store to J.Crew Factory

LH Block Electric completed the electrical buildout for J.Crew Factory at Village Square of Northbrook in 2024. The project transformed a 5,000-square-foot former mattress store into a J.Crew Factory retail location, with electrical installations tailored to the sales floor, fitting rooms, merchandise displays, and checkout area.

Our working relationship with the property manager led to the opportunity. The property manager recommended LH Block Electric to the incoming tenant, who referred our team to the out-of-state general contractor. We were then awarded the electrical work.

Our electrical scope

• Lighting and power distribution: Installed new sales-floor and fitting-room lighting, electrical panels, and equipment circuits.
• Lighting controls and emergency backup: Connected the remote emergency battery backup to J.Crew’s energy management system (EMS), lighting control panel, and designated fixtures. Coordinated commissioning with the lighting vendor.
• Display cabinets and checkout counter: Worked with the millwright and furniture builders to coordinate electrical requirements for the merchandise cabinets and checkout counter fabricated off-site.
• Point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure: Saw cut and removed portions of the floor slab for the POS electrical installation, then completed the concrete pour-back.
• Rooftop service receptacles: Installed receptacles for servicing rooftop equipment.
• Exterior signage: Provided electrical connections for the store’s signage.

Ready for the store’s opening

LH Block Electric completed the electrical work and required inspections in time for the store’s opening. The installation provided the lighting and power needed for merchandise displays, fitting rooms, and checkout operations, with the EMS and emergency battery backup integrated into the lighting system.
