1979 - Foundation
The Block Era Starts
Randy Block purchased LH Electric from founder Lukas Hunsinger in 1979. Cathy joined the business that same year, and together they began building the company around hard work, integrity, efficiency, and customer service.
1991 – INCORPORATION & GROWTH
Building a Stronger Foundation
In 1991, LH Electric was incorporated and officially became LH Block Electric Company, Inc. Under Randy and Cathy’s leadership, the company continued to grow, taking on larger commercial and industrial projects while building lasting customer relationships.

Growth and Reputation
From its beginnings as a small local contractor, LH Block has grown into an established provider of commercial and industrial electrical services throughout the Chicagoland area. Our experience includes new construction, renovations, tenant improvements, machine-shop relocations, office build-outs, and large multiunit projects.
Much of our success has been built through repeat business and long-standing customer relationships. Our clients include national brands such as Goldfish Swim School, Andy’s Frozen Custard, Trader Joe’s, and Network Global Logistics.

Our Story
From Apprentice to Legacy
LH Block Electric Company, Inc. traces its roots to the 1950s, when European immigrant Lukas Hunsinger founded LH Electric, a small electrical contracting business serving the Chicagoland area.
In 1972, Randy Block joined LH Electric as an apprentice with the promise that, through hard work and dedication, he could one day take over the business. Randy fulfilled that promise in 1979 when he purchased the company from Lukas. Cathy joined Randy in the business that same year, and together they built the foundation of what would become a multigenerational family company.
The business continued operating as LH Electric until it was incorporated in 1991 under the name LH Block Electric Company, Inc. Randy and Cathy grew the company around the principles of hard work, efficiency, integrity, and customer-focused service. Randy passed away in 2024, but his vision and values remain at the heart of LH Block today.
The Next Generation
Randy and Cathy raised five sons, four of whom—Jon, Tom, Danny, and Greg—gradually took on leadership roles. Today, Cathy serves as a consultant while the four brothers manage the company’s day-to-day operations.
As Jon likes to say, “Our grandfather and uncles were electricians as well, so I like to say we’re third-generation electricians.” Each brother brings different experience, knowledge, and strengths to the company while sharing the commitment to quality and service that has defined LH Block for generations.
