From utility power to public charging.
LH Block Electric completed the electrical installation for a public EV charging site at 303 E. State Street in Sycamore in early 2026. The project included one dual-port Level 2 charger and two dual-port, 240 kW Level 3 DC fast chargers supplied by Maverick Energy Solutions.
Our work brought together a new electrical service, underground power distribution, concrete foundations, and charger installation within an existing parking lot. Equipment identification, protective bollards, and EV parking signage completed our work around the charging area.
The challenge: an outdoor installation through winter
The project required underground electrical work and equipment installation during winter conditions. Bringing a new utility service into the parking lot also meant coordinating the transformer location, electrical equipment, and pathways to each charging station.
The work involved several connected stages—from preparing the utility infrastructure to setting and connecting the chargers—while accounting for the conditions of an outdoor winter project.
Our approach: coordinating the service and site work
LH Block worked with ComEd to coordinate a new 1,000-amp, 480-volt, three-phase electrical service. Our underground installation included approximately 110 feet of directionally bored conduit between the new utility pole and the transformer pad.
We provided the precast transformer pad and associated preparation, followed by the metering and distribution infrastructure serving the charging area. Trenching and underground feeders connected the service equipment to the individual charger locations.
This coordinated installation brought the utility connection, electrical distribution, and charger foundations together as one construction project.
Power distribution for two types of charging
The site combines Level 2 charging with two DC fast chargers. LH Block installed the outdoor disconnects, distribution equipment, and dedicated power connections required by the charging equipment.
Clearly labeled equipment is grouped on a galvanized support rack for identification and access. We installed the Maverick-supplied chargers; startup and commissioning were performed by others.
Completing the charging area
Our work extended beyond electrical connections to include concrete bases, bollards with green protective covers, equipment markings, and EV parking signage. We also restored the hardscape affected by the installation.
These elements connect the electrical installation with the practical layout of the parking area, protecting the equipment and identifying the spaces designated for charging.

Completed in early 2026, the project added three dual-port charging stations supported by a dedicated electrical service. The finished installation brings Level 2 and DC fast charging to the Sycamore property, with the utility equipment, power distribution, and charging spaces arranged together on site.
