Project overview
Midwest Salt contacted LH Block Electric after a damaged power cable took a salt-handling conveyor out of operation at its Chicago yard. With the conveyor needed to unload a vessel overnight, the customer required an electrical response that evening.
The challenge
Damage to the conveyor’s flexible SO power cable had interrupted its electrical supply. The damaged section needed to be removed and the remaining cable reconnected before the equipment could return to operation.
Our response and electrical scope
LH Block Electric dispatched an electrician with a stocked service van.

The work focused on the incoming power cable and its connection to the conveyor. Our electrician:
- Disconnected the existing cable at the equipment’s electrical enclosure.
- Removed the damaged section.
- Routed the remaining undamaged cable back into the enclosure.
- Reconnected the cable to the supply breaker.
- Tested the conveyor for proper operation.
Power restored. Operation verified.
The repair restored conveyor power, and operational testing confirmed the equipment was working that evening.
After restoring power, we advised the customer on cable length and generator positioning to help prevent strain on the repaired connection.
