Power from the service to the sign.
LH Block Electric installed the electrical infrastructure serving the high-rise sign at Ricky Rockets in Kankakee for Heidner Property Management. The project connected a new electrical service to sign equipment approximately 425 feet away, across the truck parking lot.
Our work brought together utility metering and underground power distribution to supply the sign’s illuminated displays.
The challenge: powering a sign away from the electrical service
The sign’s location required more than a nearby electrical connection. Power needed to travel across the property and reach the sign for its lighting and digital displays.
The installation required a coordinated arrangement between the new service and the equipment at the sign’s base, with outdoor electrical equipment positioned for access and future maintenance.
Our approach: connecting the service to the sign
LH Block Electric installed a new 150-amp, 277/480-volt, three-phase electrical service with ComEd-approved metering and a fused disconnect.
From that service, our team installed copper feeders through an underground poly conduit. This approximately 425-foot connection delivered power across the truck parking lot to the sign location.
At the sign’s base, a 112.5 kVA transformer stepped the voltage down to 120/208 volts. An outdoor distribution panel then supplied the individual circuits serving the signage and digital displays.
An organized outdoor installation
LH Block Electric furnished a precast concrete equipment pad beside the sign, providing a base for the transformer and distribution equipment. Galvanized supports and outdoor-rated enclosures completed the arrangement.
Our team connected the distribution equipment to the sign’s junction box, keeping the electrical equipment grouped at ground level for access and future maintenance.
A dedicated supply for the sign.
The completed system provides a dedicated electrical supply from the utility service to the high-rise sign. It connects the long underground feed to the step-down transformer and distribution panel needed to power the illuminated signage and digital displays.
