Project Overview
LH Block Electric completed an interior LED lighting modernization at Animal Medical Center of Itasca, a long-established veterinary hospital located at 220 Catalpa Avenue in Itasca, Illinois.
Serving the community since 1991, the facility provides a range of veterinary services, including preventive care, diagnostics, surgery, and dentistry.
The project involved replacing outdated fluorescent lighting with modern LED technology, improving the facility's lighting infrastructure while reducing electrical demand and ongoing maintenance requirements.
Modernizing an Established Veterinary Facility
The animal hospital's existing lighting consisted of older fluorescent fixtures, including T12 and T8 technology. While these systems had served the facility for many years, they consumed considerably more electricity than modern LED alternatives and required periodic lamp and ballast maintenance.
LH Block upgraded 72 ceiling fixtures using LED retrofit assemblies that allowed the original fixture housings to remain in place. Our electricians removed the existing lamps, ballasts, and other internal components, then installed the new LED retrofit assemblies within the retained housings.
The new fixtures offered adjustable light output and color-temperature options, providing flexibility to accommodate the different lighting needs throughout the veterinary facility.
Reusing the existing housings saved installation time while replacing the lighting components with modern LED technology. Once installed, the retrofit assemblies concealed the original housings, leaving a finished appearance with no original housing visible.
Specialty Exam Lighting
In addition to the ceiling fixture retrofits, LH Block installed a specialty exam light for the customer.

Energy Efficiency & Approved ComEd Rebate
Reducing the facility's electrical consumption was an important consideration in the lighting modernization.
The project received approval for a ComEd energy-efficiency rebate associated with replacing the older fluorescent fixtures with lower-wattage LED technology, helping offset the investment in the lighting modernization.
The updated lighting substantially reduced the system's connected electrical load while eliminating the need for traditional fluorescent lamp and ballast replacements.
Project Results
The completed retrofit provided Animal Medical Center of Itasca with updated interior lighting designed for improved energy efficiency, reduced maintenance, and long-term reliability.
By reusing the existing fixture housings and replacing the internal components, LH Block delivered modern LED lighting with a finished appearance while saving installation time.
