Built from the ground up.
LH Block Electric completed the full electrical installation for Little Sunshine’s Playhouse & Preschool, an approximately 10,000-square-foot early childhood education facility in Schaumburg that opened in 2021.
Working alongside a local general contractor, our team provided the building’s 400-amp electrical service, power distribution, interior and exterior lighting, and equipment connections. The project required coordination from the first underground pathways through the final fixtures in the finished classrooms.
Planning ahead of the concrete
Much of the electrical work began before the building took shape. Our team installed the majority of the underground home-run conduits before the foundation and footings were poured.
Conduit routes and stub-up locations had to align with the foundation layout and the planned electrical distribution. Establishing those pathways early helped minimize the need for modifications after concrete placement and prepared the building for the next stages of electrical installation.
Coordinating within wood framing
The preschool’s residential-inspired architecture incorporated wood-stud walls and engineered wood roof framing. This called for a different rough-in approach from the metal-stud commercial buildouts our team regularly encounters.
Our electricians coordinated conduit and wiring routes, electrical box locations, and overhead installations with the framing and other trades. At the covered entrance, recessed lighting was roughed in before the ceiling finishes concealed the structure.
Complete electrical scope
- Service and distribution: A 400-amp electrical service, distribution panels, feeders, and branch-circuit wiring.
- Interior lighting: Recessed fixtures throughout classrooms, offices, corridors, and common areas, plus exit and egress lighting.
- Exterior lighting: Fixtures serving building entrances, architectural features, and parking areas.
- Power and equipment: Receptacles, dedicated circuits, and electrical connections for the facility’s equipment and building systems.
Ready for everyday learning
The completed installation supplies the lighting and power needed for the preschool’s daily operations, supporting classrooms, staff spaces, entrances, and outdoor circulation areas.
From planning concealed pathways to coordinating fixtures with the finished architecture, this project reflects LH Block Electric’s experience carrying a ground-up commercial installation through each stage of construction.
